Learning is a Lifestyle

Learning doesn’t end when you leave school. Indeed learning is a lifestyle. You are always learning whenever you are travelling, working, entertaining or networking with your friends whether it is intentional or not. A learning style suitable for you is undoubtedly essential.

Learning Digitally is a Lifestyle for Millennials

The world in which millennial students have grown up is typically rich with technology, information and digital media and they have been exposed to IT from a very young age. The millennial generation stay connected by using SMS, mobile phones, chatrooms and email while they simultaneously play computer games, listen to music and watch TV. They have adapted to continuous multitasking and switch from one activity to another quickly and with minimal readjustment time. These students are accustomed to fast food, fast everything and have zero tolerance for delays. Unlike previous generations of students, eg Baby Boomers (1946-1964) or Generation X (1965-1982), this generation is considered to be more comfortable with the uncertainty of experimenting with multiple career paths and place a priority on seeking personal development and growth over career building.

Learning Becomes a Social Activity

Nowadays, both corporations and educational institutes are also promoting connected or collaborative learning. Connected Learning is an educational approach designed for the ever-changing world and realities of the digital age, where demands for learning never stop.  In a connected world, learning can no longer happen in silos, only through connections.  Whether it is in-school or out-of-school, formal or informal, virtual or physical, Connected Learning promotes learning that is driven by our interests, by socially interacting with peers and mentors, and by making the connection to relevancy in our lives and communities.  Connected Learning is learning that is about making and producing, learning with shared purpose, and learning in an openly-networked world.

Learning Never be Boring!

Edutainment makes the learning process more enjoyable & engaging which is key to effective learning. By definition it is, “The act of learning through a medium that both educates and entertains.” One key thing to note is, the word edutainment is a combination of entertainment and education. It is a made up word, as are all words. The term is used to describe content that educates and amuses.

Shows such as Sesame Street, Bill Nye the Science Guy, and The Magic School Bus have all been very successful in achieving this. Other forms of edutainment include software and video games, comics, infographics, and slide presentations. Museums and Science Centers are also most often edutational. Edutainment forms are used to attract and maintain an audience while incorporating educational content or a relevant message. Education when presented in a dry way can cause people to tune out and not absorb the material.
